Be warned, they'll try to sell you Epson as there's much higher profit margins for Epson than Canon, but this is a great printer.

The current model is the 6400/6450, and the *50 models have the advantage of being able to do exact reprints without having to use your computer. That can be handy for sales scenarios.

It's hard to tell from the web what substrate you'd use and how you'd want to print it, but it could be that you might need a solvent printer to meet your needs (i.e., thicker substrate and enhanced durability). You could discuss that with a printer sales person. ronmartblog.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06815090271742112506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5826231802859523569.post-27043858070467325502013-09-16T07:25:31.448-07:002013-09-16T07:25:31.448-07:00Hi Ron,

However my main use for it would be to produce wallpaper, with images of my own wallpaper murals (which you can see examples of at www.sacredart-murals.co.uk).

I was wondering if you might have any insight into whether you think this printer would be suitable and do you think it would accept rolls of wallpaper media (as against photo media). It's a grey area as the paper itself is harder to source than photo media.

Any thoughts you have would be greatlyappreciated, thanks,

NeilNeil Wilkinson-Cavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06333454436472474392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5826231802859523569.post-5416816740742470122012-03-12T00:09:52.607-07:002012-03-12T00:09:52.607-07:00Sorry, in my post before I was talking about suppo...Sorry, in my post before I was talking about support for 10bit screens in Lightroom 4. However, no Canon or Epson printer supports 10-bit per color channel printing, so you don't want it enabled when doing print work. Web browsers only support 8-bit color as well, so you don't want it enabled if your output is print, web, or HDTV.

Ronronmartblog.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06815090271742112506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5826231802859523569.post-15647513603838229182012-03-12T00:00:21.063-07:002012-03-12T00:00:21.063-07:00Jan,

If you want to see the difference between 8 & 16-bit printing, simply export your image from Lightroom and then print it using the Canon Print Plug-in for DPP (the software that came with your camera that few people use). It can print 16-bit because Windows has no printing limitations - it could print 32-bit if someone wrote the driver for it. The "blame" for the lack of 16-bit support falls mostly on the printer manufactuer and partially on Adobe, but see #2.

2. After your experiement, even if you do everything right (i.e., export from Lightroom as a 16-bit TIFF, etc...) you'll find that there's no mesurable difference between 8 & 16-bit printing on the PC or Mac from Epson or Canon printers. So while it feels good to click that 16-bit checkbox, you aren't missing anything if you don't. Some will argue otherwise, but have them send you photos of your own print in 8 & 16-bit with screen shots of the print dialogs and host application print settings and you'll find that you can't see the difference.

3. Lightroom 4 has improved quite a bit for printing, but the best printing results on the iPF6300, 6350, and 8300 are only possible using the Print Plug-in they've provided which is only accessible via Photoshop or DPP. My recommendation is that for the best result you use DPP, or accept lesser quality results from Lightroom. (Hint if you never look at the prints side by side you'll never know the difference, so you'll be fine with Lightroom ;-)ronmartblog.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06815090271742112506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5826231802859523569.post-78640047370896984472012-03-11T23:42:17.294-07:002012-03-11T23:42:17.294-07:00Sorry, in my post before I was talking about suppo...Sorry, in my post before I was talking about support for 10bit screens in Lightroom 4. And second the minimum paper length printer will print is 8”. So if I try to print 6 x24, last two inches will just white paper, no borderless and about 6 inches of wasted paper.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10308618797920272601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5826231802859523569.post-11247230203196869352011-02-05T22:33:04.813-08:002011-02-05T22:33:04.813-08:00Yep, I'm using them Frank - thanks for letting...Yep, I'm using them Frank - thanks for letting people knowronmartblog.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06815090271742112506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5826231802859523569.post-62674070924578633832011-02-05T22:27:49.356-08:002011-02-05T22:27:49.356-08:00Just a note, Ron.

How? I've tried a few times to print only 6x24 or 8x24 to save paper, and I just can't seem to get it. I take this to mean that you shouldn't expect to see such a printer until late 2011 or 2012 at the earliest.

The decision to not do a iPF5300 at this time was purely due to economic pressure rather than market demand, so the new LUCIA EX ink based printers were targeted for the markets where it made the most economic sense at this time (R&D cost versus Return on Investment).

Ronronmartblog.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06815090271742112506noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5826231802859523569.post-91373325039930750282010-09-23T11:54:46.920-07:002010-09-23T11:54:46.920-07:00Any information on a smaller model printer using l...Any information on a smaller model printer using lucia EX inks (e.g. IPF5300)?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
