Light Pollution Heat Map for the World

Click to learn more

One of my friends who is into astrophotography turned me on to this cool extension app for Google Maps where you can see where the light pollution is the worst anywhere on Earth so you know how far you need to drive to get away from it.

This is an invaluable resource if you are trying to get those milky way shots

Click here to learn more about this map, and check out the Lightroom tutorial on 500px for how to edit Milky Way shots. There's also an equally interesting map on Blue Marble that does something similar, but was done in 2012 instead of 2006.

Check out books on this subject at Amazon here or open your wallet for some cool astronomy gear at B&H.
