New Features for KelbyOne (Discount Offer) - 2017

$20 Off KelbyOne Annual Membership

$20 off annual membership. KelbyOne Online Photography, Photoshop, and Lightroom Classes.

KelbyOne has been known for years as one of the best deals in Photography for video training by some of the top photographers in the world. Now they've add some new perks for members that I think are pretty cool.

Insider Blog

One of my favorite blogs has been ScottKelby.com, so  I was a little concerned when I found out that there was going to be a "insider" blog on KelbyOne. However, when I checked it out, I quickly realized that this wasn't a rehash of Scott's blog or something that would take away from Scott's blog. Instead, it's something entirely new and pretty cool from what I've seen. Here's a glance of what it looks like on the inside:

A peek inside of KelbyOne Insider Blog

New Community

Another improvement is the new Community feature which is extremely well done and seems to currently be free of trolls and bots, so it's a lot better than many community sites I've visited. Here's what it looks like:

Ronmartblog.com Readers Enjoy Another Great VIP Event with Scott Kelby Today

ronmartblog.com fans with Ron Martinsen, Scott Kelby and Brad Moore
The Scott Kelby & Brad Moore Meet & Greet VIP Event

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while then you know I’m a huge Scott Kelby fan, and his Digital Photography Books have been long-time entries on my must read photography book list!

Today a few select blog readers had the opportunity to join me for a 45 minutes behind the scenes private meeting with Scott Kelby and Brad Moore. It was a great opportunity filled with cool behind the scenes stories and plenty of laughter.

Front Row Seating for Shoot Like A Pro: Reloaded

My VIP guests enjoyed front row seating with me and a great view of Scott…

…to the enjoyment of our entire group.

Coming to a city near you

Shoot Like A Pro: Reloaded! Tour in Seattle
Scott Kelby in Seattle on April 26, 2016

Scott’s is touring the country doing a new seminar where he pulls everything together from all of those books into a single seminar. Here’s a short video where Scott explains in his own words what you can expect from this day long event:

Sounds great, right?  Check out the schedule to see where he’ll be next, but sadly I won’t be there for any more VIP events.

About the Images

I’d like to thank David Gales for the photos in this article which allowed me to enjoy the show. My apologies for the mix of color and black and white photos, but I handed David the X-Pro 2 that I’m reviewing and had forgotten it was in an odd JPEG only film simulation bracket mode.

Conclusion

If you’ve never been to one of these types of classes you are in for a treat. They are a screaming deal and you learn a ton. Even if you just took the excellent handouts (which are very nice printed and bound booklets) it would be more than worth the full ticket price. The fact that our group got to meet Scott & Brad with front row VIP seating was icing on the cake!

Thanks Scott, Brad, David and Debbie for helping make sure it was a great day for all of us!

I had a chance to watch my friend Tim Wallace do his magic the other day on KelbyOne and it got me inspired to take my own shots. If you are a car photography fan I highly recommend you take advantage of my KelbyOne discount and check out these videos to learn more about how to create cool shots like these on your own! It’s fun and surprisingly easy. The only gear required is a DSLR with a good lens and a studio light with softbox. For the shots featured in this article I was using Elinchrom Rotalux Softbox (14 x 35") and Elinchrom Ranger Quadra Hybrid RX Lead-Gel Battery 2-Light Pro S Kit with a Avenger A5017 7.5' Roller Stand with a riser arm.

Conclusion

Whether its your car or a friends car, it can be fun getting photos of the cool design features found in cars today. With Tim Wallace’s videos on KelbyOne it couldn’t be easier to make images that look like they are ready for a car brochure!

It should be noted that all of these shots were taken in my messy garage without any special preparations. No studio was ever used. To see the in-camera originals check out the gallery in my D810 review.
